US President Donald Trump is calling an emergency meeting of the National Security Council (NSC) at the White House, Fox News journalist Lawrence Jones reported.
„I have learned that the president will attend a dinner with the heads of state of the G-7 in Canada and then immediately head to Washington. He has ordered the National Security Council to be ready in the White House Situation Room,“ he wrote in X.
Trump is leaving the G-7 summit in Canada early because of the situation in the Middle East and is heading to the US capital, White House press secretary Caroline Leavitt confirmed to reporters.
"President Trump will return to Washington to have time to resolve very important issues," she noted.
„He had a great day at the G-7 summit, signing a major trade deal with the United Kingdom and Prime Minister Keir Starmer. Much has been achieved, but due to what is happening in the Middle East, he will leave after dinner with the heads of state of the “G7“, the press secretary added.
Trump's statement on the need to evacuate everyone from Tehran is aimed at convincing Iran to immediately return to the negotiating table, a White House official said in a conversation with CNN.
The writing in Truth Social showed “the urgent need for Iran to return to negotiations“. The CNN interlocutor added that US Secretary of State Marco Rubio constantly informed Trump about the course of military action between Iran and Israel.
Trump said that “everyone should evacuate Tehran immediately”. He is convinced that Iran should have signed the nuclear agreement under the terms he proposed.
The US military is taking a defensive stance in the Middle East, and Washington is seeking a peaceful resolution to the situation around Iran, US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said.
"We are taking a defensive stance in the region, seeking a peaceful agreement. And we certainly hope that will happen," he said in an interview with Fox News.
The Pentagon chief added that US President Donald Trump still wants to make an agreement with Tehran on the Islamic Republic's nuclear program and that "his position on this issue has not changed".
„Iran should have signed the "deal" that I insisted on. What a disgrace and a loss of life. Simply put, Iran cannot have nuclear weapons. I have said it again and again! Everyone must evacuate Tehran immediately!“ he wrote on the social network Truth Social. The American leader did not provide further explanations.
The participants in the G-7 meeting have agreed that Iran must not develop its nuclear program. British Prime Minister Keir Starmer told reporters during a joint press conference with US President Donald Trump on the sidelines of the meeting in the Canadian province of Alberta.
"We had a discussion on this issue. There is unity in the G7 and absolute clarity on the Iranian nuclear program," Starmer said.
Reuters reported, citing its sources, that the G7 leaders have prepared a draft joint statement on the conflict between Iran and Israel, but Trump has not signed it. According to the agency, the G7 leaders were supposed to call on the countries to de-escalate in this draft statement. In addition, it notes that Israel has the right to self-defense.
Trump said that he was confident that an agreement would be reached with Iran on its nuclear developments and that Iranian representatives were asking him for a deal.
„I think a deal will be signed, or something will happen. "Iran is not stupid not to sign it," Trump said after meeting with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
He signaled that progress could be expected in the coming days on the diplomatic front between the United States and Iran. "I think Iran is essentially at the negotiating table. They want to make a deal. And as soon as I leave here, we'll do something," he said.
