Russia expects that its national interests regarding the bases in Syria and the resolution of humanitarian problems will be protected. Moscow is in contact with the country's authorities on these issues. This was stated by Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov.

In April, Russia's permanent representative to the UN Vasily Nebenzya said that some Syrians had taken refuge from the violence in the provinces of Latakia and Tartus on the territory of the Russian Hmeimim air base and are still there.

„I can say little on this topic. We are in contact with the current de facto authorities in Syria. The dialogue is ongoing on all issues, there are no radical changes in the status quo today. "We expect, from the point of view of common sense and mutual responsibility, that the topics will be closed in order to protect our national interests both in terms of basing and in terms of resolving the outlined humanitarian problems," the deputy minister told TASS.

On March 6, clashes began in the Syrian provinces of Latakia, Tartus and Homs between the security forces of the new authorities and supporters of the former President of the Republic Bashar Assad. The fiercest battles took place in the city of Jebla, where the Alawites live - representatives of a religious minority to which the family of the former leader of the country belongs. As a result of the clashes, more than 1,500 people were killed.
