Germany faces heatwave with temperatures up to 37°C

Thunderstorms, strong winds and hail are expected after the heatwave, especially in the eastern part of the country

A heatwave is heading towards Germany and according to the German Meteorological Service's forecast, temperatures will reach 37 degrees Celsius on Sunday, DPA reports, BTA reports.

Maximum values will vary between 31 and 37 degrees, with the hottest in the western part of the country. Heavy rains and thunderstorms are expected there later in the day, which will also cover central Germany at night.

On Saturday, the weather will be mostly sunny and dry. Temperatures are expected to range from around 25 degrees in the north to 33 degrees in the Rhine Valley.

On Monday, temperatures will drop, with northwestern regions reaching between 20 and 26 degrees, and the rest of the country between 26 and 30 degrees. Heavy rainfall and thunderstorms are expected, especially in the south and southeast.

Eastern and southeastern Germany will be at risk of stormy weather with strong gusts of wind, hail and heavy rain, forecasters warn.
