The Russian offensive in the border zone of Sumy region, in northern Ukraine, has been successfully halted, said the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, General Oleksandr Syrsky. This was reported by the agencies “Reuters“ and “Ukrinform“, BTA reports.

“The offensive of Russian troops in the border area of Sumy region has been stopped, and the front line has been stabilized“, General Sirsky said in a statement after visiting the front line.

According to him, Ukrainian units are implementing effective tactics of active defense and are gradually liberating territories in the region.

“In the Northern Slobozhanshchyna and Kursk sectors, we have blocked about 50,000 Russian servicemen, including elite units of the airborne forces and marines. Our offensive actions in the Khlushkovo area in Russia's Kursk region forced the enemy to transfer forces to defend their own territory. This significantly weakened their main strike group in the direction of Sumy“, the general added.
