Russian Education Minister Sergei Kravtsov has launched an initiative to rewrite the history of the countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) in order to eliminate the "negative representation" of the Soviet past, Ukrinform reported.

"Russia is raising historical revisionism to a new level by putting pressure on the CIS countries," reads a statement published on "Telegram" by the Center for Countering Disinformation (CDC) of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine

"Minister Kravtsov said that there are "problems" with the way history is taught in these countries - specifically, that the Soviet past is negatively presented in textbooks. Moscow is already holding talks with the education ministers of these countries to promote "a unified interpretation of our common past", the CPD added.

The Ukrainian service notes that this is an attempt by the Kremlin to impose a favorable version of history on neighboring countries. The war in Ukraine has led to widespread historical censorship in Russia, and now Moscow is trying to export this policy, disguising it under the slogans of "a common educational space" and "Eurasian mental unity", the CPD also writes.
