China and the European Union should promote the peaceful settlement of international disputes and jointly solve global problems, said Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi.
“We should adhere to the principles of multilateralism and free trade, respect international rules and international order, promote the peaceful settlement of international disputes and jointly solve global problems such as climate change“, Wang Yi was quoted as saying by the Chinese Foreign Ministry website. He met with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in Brussels on July 2.
As the diplomat specified, Beijing has always supported the process of European integration, maintaining a course towards high-quality development and a high level of openness. According to Wang Yi, China is ready to develop partnership relations with the EU, deepen trade and economic cooperation, strengthen mutual openness, eliminate differences and achieve mutually beneficial results.
The head of the Chinese Foreign Ministry noted that in the context of an increasingly complex international situation, China and the European Union should strengthen contacts, deepen mutual trust, pursue responsible policies, acting as a “stabilizing force“ in the world.
"The People's Republic of China has never been and will never be a source of problems for the EU. The Chinese authorities hope for its rational and pragmatic position in interacting with the European country," Wang Yi said.
"Europe faces various challenges, but neither in the past, nor in the present, nor in the future did they come from China", the Chinese Foreign Ministry quoted Wang Yi as saying.
The head of the Chinese Foreign Ministry expressed hope that the European Union would form "an objective and rational view of the PRC and pursue a more positive and pragmatic policy towards it".
