US President Donald Trump said that a UFC fight will be held on the territory of the White House.
UFC, or Ultimate Fighting Championship, is the largest mixed martial arts (MMA) organization in the world. It holds MMA competitions, in which top-ranked fighters participate. UFC was founded in 1993 and has since become a dominant force in the world of combat sports.
During a speech in Iowa dedicated to the upcoming 250th anniversary of the adoption of the US Declaration of Independence in 2026, Trump said that celebrations dedicated to this date will be held throughout the country. “I even think we will have a UFC fight. "Does anyone here watch UFC?" the American leader asked the audience, referring to UFC President Dana White in his speech.
"We're going to have a UFC fight, just imagine, on the grounds of the White House. We have a lot of space there," Trump said. According to him, we're talking about a "full-fledged fight" for the championship title, which is expected to be attended by 20,000-25,000 spectators.
Trump did not explain when exactly the fight could take place or who would participate in it. Journalists from the White House press office quoted the words of the US administration's press secretary Caroline Leavitt, who explained that Trump was “absolutely serious“.
Meanwhile, the US president “once again attributed the victories in World War I and World War II to the United States”, TASS reported.
“We won World War I. We won World War II. We won other wars,“ he said during his speech in Iowa.
Earlier, Trump declared November 11 and May 8 as Victory Days in World War I and World War II. According to him, the United States did incomparably more than any other country to win World War II.
Following Trump's statements, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova recalled that former US President Franklin Roosevelt had recognized the decisive contribution of the Red Army to the victory over Nazi Germany. The diplomat also drew attention to the fact that the population of the United States has practically lost knowledge of its own history and the country's role in World War II.
