One of Sweden's most wanted crime bosses was detained in Turkey on Friday during an operation against drug trafficking, Reuters reported, citing Swedish police.

The statement described the arrest as a major success in the fight against organized crime and the result of long-term targeted work by Turkish and Swedish justice.

Swedish police did not release the name of the detainee, but according to Turkish state television TRT, it is 35-year-old Ismail Abdo, who has dual Swedish and Turkish citizenship.

His name has been linked to at least 12 murders in Sweden since 2023. Among them is Abdo's mother, who police say is the victim of a war between him and a former ally.

TRT reports that Abdo was among 19 suspects detained as part of a major investigation into organized crime groups linked to drug trafficking and money laundering.

Turkish authorities have also seized assets worth around 1.5 billion Turkish liras (38 million euros).

Arrest warrants have been issued for 21 more people, four of whom are still at large, 14 are believed to be abroad and three are already in custody on other charges.

In Sweden, Abdo's capture is being seen as a major success for the police, as well as for the right-wing government, which came to power in 2022 with a promise to end the crime wave that has plagued the country for more than a decade.
