The authorities of the Canary Islands and Ceuta will pay an advance of over 5 million euros for the relocation of minor migrants to mainland Spain. The government in Madrid has not yet approved a schedule for the reimbursement, BNR specifies.
The royal decree, approved by the Council of Ministers on Tuesday, stipulates that “the autonomous community declared to be in an emergency immigration situation will be responsible for the transfer of minors”.
The texts are essential for starting the distribution of children, who are concentrated mainly in the Canary Islands and Ceuta.
The decree states that the transfer will be financed by the central government with 100 million EUR. However, the money is planned but not transferred.
In addition, the government in Madrid still owes 50 million EUR to the Canary Islands for childcare costs last year.
The relocation of more than 3,000 minors, most of whom are currently on the archipelago off the coast of Africa, is scheduled to begin on August 28.
