Passenger train derails in southwest Germany, injured

The incident occurred this evening near the Biberach district (Baden-Württemberg)

A passenger train derailed near Riedlingen (Baden-Württemberg) in southwest Germany, the DPA agency reported, citing law enforcement officials. The number of injured in the incident is still unknown

According to the Bild newspaper, the incident occurred at around 6:10 p.m. (7:10 p.m. Bulgarian time) near the Biberach district (Baden-Württemberg). A representative of the federal police in Stuttgart told Bild that two carriages of the regional express train of the Deutsche Bahn railway company derailed. There were about 100 people on the train at the time of the incident. “At least three of them were injured. There is no information yet on the severity of their injuries," the police officer said.

The train was traveling from Sigmaringen to Ulm. It is not yet known whether the accident was caused by bad weather or trees on the tracks. Numerous rescue and fire services, as well as police, are working at the scene of the accident. Fallen trees can be seen, DPA reports.

The Reutlingen dispatch office reported a so-called mass incident. That is, a large number of victims are expected to require medical attention. Baden-Württemberg Interior Minister Thomas Strobl arrived at the scene of the accident, DPA reports.
