Ukraine may give up its lost territories to stop military operations and receive security guarantees in the form of arms supplies and a path to NATO membership.
As reported by the British newspaper The Daily Telegraph, citing sources, Volodymyr Zelensky has softened his position before the Russian-American summit.
According to the publication, the Ukrainian authorities are ready to freeze the conflict along the current line of contact. At the same time, Kiev does not want to cede the territories under its control in the DPR, LPR, Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions.
As the newspaper specified, European representatives believe that Zelensky “has the opportunity to act in the interests of a growing number of Ukrainian voters who are ready to agree to territorial concessions to Moscow in exchange for an end“ to military operations. From the publication's point of view, Zelensky “will have to be cunning, since the country's constitution does not allow him to cede territory without a national referendum“.
According to the publication, in exchange for giving up the territories, Kiev expects to receive “reliable security guarantees in the form of arms supplies and a path to NATO membership“.
