A woman was killed in Ukrainian shelling in the Russian-occupied city of Donetsk, DPA reported, quoted by BTA, citing local authorities.

Three other people were injured in the attack, the Moscow-appointed mayor of the city, Alexei Kulemzin, wrote on the Telegram app.

He said the attack was carried out by the Ukrainian army with an unspecified "long-range weapon".

The city of Donetsk is located about 40 kilometers from the front line and between 2014 – 2022 was under separatist control.

Moscow annexed the Donetsk region in September 2022.

Russia is preparing to test its new nuclear-powered cruise missile and, if the test is successful, plans to use the results to strengthen its negotiating position with the West, the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry said, as cited by Reuters.

The service's spokesman Andriy Yusov issued a written statement to Reuters just before U.S. President Donald Trump held talks in Alaska with Russian President Vladimir Putin to end the war in Ukraine.

The statement was made in response to questions from Reuters about a report published on Tuesday that Moscow was preparing to test the 9M730 "Burevestnik" cruise missile.

Yusov did not specify how his service arrived at this assessment. It has been receiving intelligence from the United States and its NATO allies for years and has its own networks in Russia.

On Tuesday, Reuters reported that two American researchers and a Western security source said Moscow was preparing to test the "Burevestnik" at its "Pankovo" range on the Novaya Zemlya archipelago in the Barents Sea. The researchers said that images from "Planet Labs", a commercial satellite company, showed extensive activity at the site, an increase in personnel and equipment, and the presence of ships and aircraft linked to previous tests of the weapon.

The Russian Defense Ministry, the Pentagon and the CIA declined to comment on the report. The White House did not directly comment on whether a test was being prepared, saying it was in response to a question about Trump wanting peace in Ukraine.

Yusov said Moscow, which has threatened to use nuclear weapons over the war in Ukraine, is using the test as diplomatic leverage. "Russia is preparing for another round of tests of the 9M730 "Burevestnik". The purpose of these tests is to confirm the scientific and technical solutions implemented by the missile. If successful, Russia will use the results to defend its interests in negotiations with the West," his statement said.

Putin has said in the past that the weapon is "invulnerable" for missile defense, with a nearly unlimited range and unpredictable flight path.

But many experts note that it is unclear whether the missile can evade defense systems, that it is possible to spew radiation, and that the weapon would not give Moscow any additional capabilities.

"Burevestnik" has had poor test results, according to the advocacy group "Nuclear Threat Initiative", with two partial successes out of 13 tests.
