The parliament of Burkina Faso has passed a law banning "homosexual practices", which will now be punishable by up to five years in prison, Justice Minister Edasso Rodrigue Bayala announced today, quoted by DPA, BTA reported.

The minimum penalty is two years in prison plus a fine.

Recidivists who do not have citizenship will be expelled from the country of 23 million inhabitants, which has been ruled by a military junta since 2022, DPA reported.

According to the non-governmental human rights organization "Human Rights Watch", homosexuality is already criminalized in more than 30 of the 54 countries in Africa.
