US President Donald Trump spoke with his Polish counterpart Karol Nawrocki after Poland shot down drones that violated its airspace last night, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.
Last week, Trump met with Nawrocki at the White House, the agency recalls.
„This conversation is part of a series of consultations that I am holding with our allies," Polish President Karol Nawrocki wrote on the social network Ex. „Today's conversations confirmed our unity,“ he added.
The Polish army called the violation of Polish airspace "an act of aggression". Warsaw requested consultations under Article 4 of the NATO treaty. Article 4 provides for consultations if a member state of the alliance believes that its territorial integrity, independence or security is threatened.
The Russian chargé d'affaires in Warsaw, Andrey Ordas, was summoned to the Polish Foreign Ministry yesterday afternoon, where he was handed a note of protest. The Russian representative denied that the drones were Russian.
Poland has received offers of support for its air defense from its European allies, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced yesterday after talks with the leaders of France, Germany, Britain, Italy, the Netherlands, Ukraine and NATO.
French President Emmanuel Macron discussed the situation in the Middle East by phone with US President Donald Trump after the Israeli strikes on Qatar, Reuters reported, citing a post on the French head of state's Aix social platform.
Macron and Trump also spoke about Russia's war against Ukraine and in particular the incursion of Russian drones into Poland, Macron said in Aix.
“Close cooperation between Europeans and Americans is of key importance on each of these fronts“, the French president said.
