The number of crimes in Austria related to right-wing extremism has increased significantly in 2025, BTA reports, quoted by News.bg.

The data became known from a response by Interior Minister Gerhard Karner to a parliamentary question from the Austrian Social Democratic Party.

In the first six months of the year, 787 crimes were registered, which represents an increase of 41.5% compared to the same period in 2024. Among them, 21 cases were classified as anti-Semitic and 11 as Islamophobic.

A serious increase is also reported in signals under the 1947 Prohibition Act, which prohibits the activities of the Nazi party and provides for strict sanctions for “repeated Nazi activity“. While in the first half of 2024 there were 577, in 2025 they already reached 785. The law also includes penalties for the distribution of Nazi symbols, propaganda materials and Holocaust denial, including on the Internet.

By federal province, Vienna is in the lead with 236 crimes, followed by Upper Austria (171) and Lower Austria (103). The data shows that 27% of all acts were committed on the Internet, which equals 212 crimes.
