German car concern Volkswagen (VW) has admitted that hackers stole a large amount of technical information from it as early as ten years ago. The company declined to disclose details of the situation.
German publications Der Spiegel and ZDF previously reported, citing company sources, that between 2010 and 2015, hackers stole approximately 19,000 files from VW containing various technical information.
According to their data, the hackers were mainly interested in documents in areas such as internal combustion engines, gearboxes, transmissions, as well as data on developments in the field of electric vehicles, batteries for them, etc.
The UNN publication, citing cyber security experts, suggests that the hackers may be linked to China
Among the evidence, they cited Chinese IP addresses, distinctive spyware and the time when hackers typically carried out the attacks. The Chinese embassy in Germany has already called the accusations outrageous and said it condemns any form of cyber-espionage.
