"The volume of supplies of Russian gas to Europe will be reduced if Ukraine refuses to transit it, but “that is their choice“". This was stated by Russian President Vladimir Putin at the plenary session of the Eastern Economic Forum.
Putin drew attention to the fact that the main consumers of Russian gas in Europe apparently do not want to force Ukraine to keep the transit, although they provide Ukraine with comprehensive assistance - military, financial and “all kinds” support. “But Ukraine refuses our transit, which means that the volumes of gas flowing to Europe will decrease. They will go through other routes, notably through "Turkish Stream", maybe partially through "Blue Stream", he said.
According to him, these supplies will also help with energy stability in Europe. "But it's their choice. I'm not entirely sure how this will play out for them. We deal with our problems, and let them deal with theirs“, the president added.
Russia does not refuse to transit its gas through Ukraine. But if Ukraine refuses, then Russia cannot force it, Russian President Vladimir Putin said at the plenary session of the Eastern Economic Forum.
„But as for Ukraine, we do not refuse this transit, strange as it may be, because we and the company “Gazprom“ we intend to fulfill all our obligations to our customers with whom we have long-term contracts,” he said.
The President recalled that one of the mandatory components of gas supplies to Europe is transit. “There is a transit agreement that expires on December 31, 2024. But if Ukraine refuses this transit, well, we cannot force them,” Putin said.
The Eastern Economic Forum takes place on September 3-6 in Vladivostok on the campus of the Far Eastern Federal University. The main theme of the EEF in 2024 is “Far East – 2030. Joining forces, creating opportunities”. EEF 2024 business events are divided into seven thematic blocks: “New frontiers of international cooperation“, “Technologies of independence“, “Financial value system“, “Russia's Far East“, “People, education and patriotism“ ;, “Transport“ and logistics: new routes" and "Master Plans: From Architecture to Economics".
