Finland, Sweden and Kazakhstan show interest in South Korean reactors - 1

South Korean company Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP) is close to signing contracts to build nuclear reactors in several European countries, including Finland and Sweden. Norway and Kazakhstan are also showing interest, the ag reported. Bloomberg, citing company head Huang Ju Ho.

Countries where KHNP is close to contracting include Sweden, Finland, the Netherlands and Slovenia. After the South Korean company won the tender to build two units of the Dukovany NPP in the Czech Republic, customers in Norway and Kazakhstan have shown interest in buying its reactors. According to Hwang Joo-ho, the company is able to meet the South Korean government's goal of building ten reactors overseas by 2030.

„We have a diverse product line, we can supply reactors of any size, from large to small, and we can retrofit older reactors by extending their life,” the manager told the agency.

South Korea began exporting its nuclear technology in 2009, striking a deal to build a nuclear power plant in the UAE. KHNP is currently coordinating the details of the nuclear power plant projects with the authorities of Poland and Egypt. At the same time, the project in the Czech Republic may encounter difficulties - after KHNP was declared the winner of the tender, this decision of the Czech authorities was challenged by the American Westinghouse, which is also fighting for the right to implement the project.

„We are working to ensure that the legal dispute with Westinghouse does not become a major issue. We hope to resolve the conflict before finalizing the Czech deal”, Huang Ju Ho said.
