The percentage of women in key management positions is increasing - 1

Women in management positions in Bulgaria are increasing, although they remain fewer than men. In 2023, their number reached 68,000 - 3,200 more than the previous year. This is shown by the data from the Report on the equality of women and men for 2023, which was approved by the government. Last year, the share of women who are part of management boards increased from 14.8% to 18.3%. The gender pay gap in 2022 was 13% in favor of men.

The report shows that last year the employment rate for women aged 15-64 was 67.4%, and for men - 73.9%. There is also a difference in the average amount of the pension for length of service and age. For men, it was BGN 942, and for women - BGN 765. However, women received a pension for an average of 27.6 years, which is more than 7 years more than men.

In 2023, the average insurance income was BGN 1,445.55. For men, it was BGN 1,488.15 - 6.2% more than for women.

The report reflects the results of policy implementation in five priority areas: equality of women and men in the labor market and equal degree of economic independence; reducing the gender pay and income gap; promoting equality in decision-making processes; combating violence and protecting and supporting victims; overcoming gender stereotypes in various spheres of public life and sexism.
