The American Apple Corporation offered to the Indonesian authorities an investment of USD 100 million, which is ten times higher than the initial offer, to lift the ban on the sale of the iPhone 16 in the country, the ag reported. Bloomberg.
Apple previously planned to invest at least USD 10 million in a factory in Bandung that will produce accessories and components for Apple smartphones.
Jakarta has banned the sale of these smartphones, as well as Google Pixel devices, for violating rules requiring them to contain at least 40% of domestically produced components.
It is noted that the trade restrictions will remain until the US corporations Google and Apple meet the requirements of the national certificate of conformity of the components.
In turn, Indonesian Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita said that Apple must fulfill its remaining investment commitments of 240 billion Indonesian rupiah (about 15.3 million USD) out of a total of 1.71 trillion rupiah ( about 109 million USD) to get a license to sell iPhone 16 in the country.
