Robot taxis to appear in Hong Kong soon - 1

Guangzhou-based Pony.ai has announced its intention to create robot taxi services (self-driving passenger cars) in Hong Kong. According to the South China Morning Post (SCMP), robot car manufacturers are already looking at the Hong Kong market with interest.

According to the publication, Pony.ai has announced its desire to open such a taxi service first for employees of Hong Kong International Airport, and then expand it to the central parts of the city.

The launch dates for the robot taxis have not yet been announced, but the company hopes that this will happen soon.

As indicated by the SCMP, in 2024 Chinese company Baidu, known for being the first in the country to launch driverless taxis, has also announced its intention to launch such a service in Hong Kong. In November 2024, Hong Kong's Department of Transport approved Baidu's application to test 10 autonomous vehicles on Lantau Island, granting the company a license valid until December 2029.
