US President-elect Donald Trump has promised to reverse the decision of incumbent President Joe Biden to ban oil and gas production in the US coastal zone.
„I see that Biden has banned all oil and gas production on 625 million acres (2.5 million sq. km.) of the US coastal zones. This is absurd. I will remove this ban immediately. We have oil and gas in volumes that no one else has, and we will use it. This is our greatest economic asset, and we will not allow our country to be destroyed by such a decision“, Trump said in an interview with Salem News Channel.
According to Trump, the United States should actively use its natural resources for economic development, including expanding production and strengthening energy independence.
As Bloomberg notes, the ban is Biden's next step aimed at combating the use of fossil fuels and greenhouse gases. The decision also makes it difficult for Trump to increase oil and gas production in the United States.
During the campaign before the 2020 US presidential election, Biden announced plans to completely stop issuing new licenses for the development of oil and gas fields on public lands and the maritime shelf. After coming to power, he introduced a moratorium on leasing federal lands for this purpose.
