Kazakhstan has completed a series of talks on the selection of technologies for the construction of a nuclear power plant (NPP), Kazinform agency reports, citing Zhibek Joly TV channel.
The shortlist includes four companies (CNNC, ICHNP, Rosatom, EDF), representing four countries: China, South Korea, Russia and France.
Countries such as the UAE, Turkey, the Czech Republic, India, Hungary and Egypt are cooperating with these companies.
Why exactly were these companies chosen for our future nuclear power plant? Companies from these countries are united by several factors. First, the vast experience they have. They also have technologies for building water-moderated reactors. From this, one can conclude what type of nuclear power plant will be built.
"These are reactors with two water cooling circuits, which are also the safest reactors. As far as I understand, when we sent the proposal for inclusion in the short list, these were the countries that responded. Because there are many other types of reactors, and perhaps we were offered those 16 candidates that were then on the short list - most likely, these were reactors of a different type," said the chairman of the Kazakhstan Association of Energy Supply Organizations, Sergey Agafonov.
The final decision on the selection of a supplier or consortium for the construction of the nuclear power plant will be made in the near future. It will be made taking into account national interests, international norms and obligations, as well as the recommendations of the IAEA. The head of state has spoken about this many times.
It was previously reported that Kazakhstan may begin construction of a second and third nuclear power plant.
The General Director of JSC "Kazakhstan Nuclear Power Plants" Timur Zhantykin noted that the second nuclear power plant may appear in the eastern part of Kazakhstan.
