"The introduction of the euro will in no way increase electricity bills", said Deputy Minister of Energy Georgi Samandov in Stara Zagora during a working meeting, part of the national information campaign for the introduction of the euro from January 1, 2026, BTA reports.

He recalled that the government managed to renegotiate the "unthinking acceptance" of liberalization by continuing the practice of regulating electricity prices. Samandov stated that in this way Bulgaria and Hungary maintain the lowest prices for household electricity.

The Deputy Minister presented examples of the benefits of the introduction of the euro in our country in the electricity and natural gas sectors. "Immediately after the publication of the positive convergence report, the Bulgarian Energy Holding was able to refinance bonds, achieving 20 percent better financial terms than its previous participations," Samandov pointed out.

He added that the Bulgarian gas transmission operator "Bulgartransgaz" was able to attract external financing with record low interest rates, which are below 2%.
