The Judicial College of the Supreme Judicial Council is expected to appoint the deputy head of the Supreme Administrative Court, Marinika Cherneva, as acting president today, Nova TV reports.
A week ago, personnel officers decided to ask the judges in order of seniority who wants to hold the position. Cherneva has given her consent. This has come to this point after Georgi Cholakov's term expired last year, but he remained in office as acting president.
Legal changes adopted at the beginning of the year prohibited the same person from holding the position for more than 6 months. They expired on July 21. The case of the acting Prosecutor General Borislav Sarafov is similar. However, the prosecutor's office believes that the law does not apply to existing cases and left Sarafov in office after July 21.
The Criminal Chamber of the Supreme Court of Cassation accepted that Sarafov was no longer an I.F. and refused to consider his requests.
