The criticisms of both budget options were in the expenditure part. An extension budget in the first three months practically limits it. But there are other difficulties, and without a financial framework adopted at the end of the year, it is not good to enter 2026. But it still depends on what it is – if the final budget causes more damage than the extension, perhaps the second option is better. This was said by the executive director of the Union for Business Initiative, Mihail Krastev, on the air of “Hello, Bulgaria”.
A extension budget is something that will be closest to the capacity of the Bulgarian economy in terms of generating revenue and covering expenses, commented economist Vasil Karaivanov.
According to Krastev, a major problem with the state budget is the automaticity of determining remuneration in the public sector. In the latest version of the budget for 2026, a freeze was provided for and there is no problem with this happening in the extension as well. He pointed out that it does not affect pensions, as they will be indexed after the summer, and by then there will most likely be a budget.
Krastev added that the extension budget can function for three months. If necessary, it can be extended again if there is a parliamentary majority. But if there is one, there will also be a budget, the economist added.
Karaivanov commented on Kostadin Kostadinov's words that we will not enter the eurozone because the old budget does not contain the word "euro". "The extension budget will simply add the word "euro", he believes.
