Public transport management in Plovdiv is facing a shortage of drivers, forcing them to hire staff from abroad. According to BNT, about 30 Indian drivers will soon drive city buses in Plovdiv, as efforts to find drivers from neighboring countries such as Moldova and Ukraine have not been successful.

Recruitment process for Indian drivers is now over,

as the candidates have successfully passed the necessary competitions. Among the conditions is the command of the English language, and the preparation of their documents and visas is underway, explained Dimitar Cholakov, manager of the transport company. Indian drivers will be paid the same as their Bulgarian counterparts and will be provided with accommodation.

Before they start performing their duties,

The new recruits will go through comprehensive training to familiarize themselves with the vehicles, routes and working conditions in urban conditions, Cholakov added.

The current drivers in Plovdiv are not worried about the arrival of their new colleagues from India. On the contrary, they expect their workload to decrease,

which will allow for more vacations and holidays just before the summer season,

Nevertheless, local residents have mixed reactions to the prospect of Indian drivers driving city buses in Plovdiv.
