Udar: Already at the next technical inspection, thousands of Bulgarians will automatically leave without their car - 1

Cars that do not meet the requirements for the limit values of exhaust gas emissions according to the environmental standards, to be officially deregistered. Deregistration is imperative to stop the practice of removing a catalytic converter or diesel particulate filter.

The measure is enshrined in the National Air Pollution Control Program 2020-2030 in the updated Integrated National Plan “Energy and Climate”, uploaded for public discussion, a check of the “Telegraph” showed.

Plan

The plan envisages deregistration of vehicles that do not meet the requirements for limit values of emissions from exhaust gases according to the norms approved for their respective environmental category. Upon detection of such a violation, when the car goes for the mandatory Annual Technical Inspection (ATP), the information is submitted to the unified system and the car will automatically be deregistered. An option is being considered for the vehicle owner to have the opportunity within 30 days to restore the factory converter or particulate filter. After which he will have the opportunity to pass the GTP again before he is finally removed from the traffic police report. The purpose of the measure is to prevent the “disposal” of old vehicles on the Bulgarian market, importers are motivated.

Idea

The idea is to gradually modernize the composition of the car fleet in our country by imposing restrictions on the import of used vehicles with an ecological category below Euro 4. The National Program stipulates that even such cars cannot be sold on the domestic market. The plan aims to promote the production and consumption of alternative renewable fuels, namely hydrogen, including through the development of infrastructure for alternative clean fuels. Checking the “Telegraph” on muffler and pot repair shops shows that there is no longer interest in catalytic converter removal, as there was only 2-3 years ago. However, people are asking about returning the catalytic converter. “It is different for each car, for one it may be 50 BGN, for another 1000, on average it is about 500 BGN. That's the dipief, as they say to the diesel filter,”, he explained to “Telegraph” craftsman from "Slivnitsa" Blvd. in the capital.

His colleague was adamant that even if a customer came to ask for the removal of a catalyst and the installation of a resonator pot to replace it, he categorically refused them. “This is not the Middle East, we are here in the European Union and we have to get used to it”, he was categorical. Otherwise, the price of such a catalyst substitute is between BGN 50 and 100. The removal of the filter for solid particles, of the EGR valve costs between 150 and 300 BGN. The price includes its software removal, it applies to all types of cars, including those of a new generation.
