President Rumen Radev promulgates the Preschool and School Education Act, announced the press office of the head of state.
"In response to the questions asked about what attitude the Head of State will take regarding the changes to the Law on Preschool and School Education voted by the National Assembly, we inform you: The Head of State has expressed his attitude to the changes in the Law on Preschool and School Education with the signing of a decree for its promulgation", the position says.
We remind you that the changes to the Law on preschool and school education were adopted on August 7. Some of the political parties called on the head of state to veto the amendments.
The changes prohibit propaganda, promotion and incitement in any way, directly or indirectly, of ideas and views related to non-traditional sexual orientation or determination of gender identity other than biological. The text of the amendment also provides a definition of "non-traditional sexual orientation" - "different from the generally accepted and embedded in the Bulgarian legal tradition concept of emotional, romantic, sexual or sensual attraction between persons of opposite sexes".
LGBTI activists spoke out against the amendments and demanded that the head of state veto them. Another protest of the LGBTI community is scheduled for today.
