Metodi Lalov: Anton Slavchev is a man without dignity - 1

The former chairman of the Sofia District Court and ex-municipal councilor from "Democratic Bulgaria", lawyer Metodi Lalov, expressed his opinion about the veto imposed by President Rumen Radev on the changes to the Law on the Bar. In an interview with the Bulgarian National Radio (BNR), he emphasized that although there are criticisms of the political behavior of the head of state, in this particular case Radev acted within his powers.

"The current law on the legal profession does not guarantee transparency, accountability, adequate selection of bodies, and that is why these changes are being made,'' commented Lalov. He expressed his disapproval of the reaction of the legal community, which showed readiness to protest against the presidential veto.

Lawyer Lalov pointed out that the law still has flaws, especially regarding the designation of special representatives and their remuneration. He criticized "quick legislation" and called for a deeper debate on the subject.

"I guarantee that it is about tens of millions, because I have seen huge sums in specific cases – six-figure fees. Does this correspond to the factual and legal complexity of the case?" Lalov asked rhetorically.

The former magistrate also commented on the release of the chairman of the Commission for Combating Corruption and Confiscation of Illegally Acquired Property (KPCONPI) Anton Slavchev, defining him as a "doormat and a person without dignity". "How long will people tolerate such people being elected. When they spit on you in the NS and he can't leave because he's dependent on someone. If it's me, I'll criticize them, wave the finger at them, and walk away. There is no benefit from KPCONPI. Statistics show that the funds from confiscated property are less than the expenses incurred by the Commission. This is a club", commented the former chairman of the Sofia District Court.

Lawyer Lalov called for civic activity and unification around new political projects that are not dependent on behind-the-scenes interests. He expressed hope that such projects will appear in the near future, although they are not presented in the upcoming local elections on October 27.
