Toma Bikov: There is nothing new to say, at least let's humble ourselves - 1

We can hardly say something different from what we said in the previous campaign. From GERB we can try to present the proposals and ideas in a different way.

This is what he said about “Focus" the deputy from GERB-SDS Toma Bykov.

He pointed to the statement of the Holy Synod of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church (BOC), which called on the faithful to pray for politicians to repent and change their attitude towards politics and society.

"In this election campaign, if we are not capable of repentance, at least we are capable of humility. GERB-SDS is the only political force of the last 34 years that has supported the second term of its main opponent in a government composed of 90% of ministers who have nothing to do with us and are not from GERB-SDS circles. We supported him for 9 months to create conditions for political stability. The attempt turned out to be a failure, the construction was clear from the beginning that it could lead to even more instability. These efforts cost us about 150,000 votes down in terms of the trust we received in the election. "Unfortunately, it cannot be done when only one political force is inclined to such a heavy compromise", stressed Toma Bykov.

“At the beginning of this parliament we proposed the creation of a government of shared responsibility, it was also our right to propose a governance formula, as the first political force. And from then on, each political force could offer its own ideas and proposals for the work of the government. This was a meaningful way to create a broad coalition government, in which each of the formations would assume its share of political responsibility and it would be proportional to its representation in the National Assembly.

To get as many ministries as you can handle, not to get more or less. This was not understood by the majority of the formations and we went to a backup option that was extremely risky for us and proposed a minority government with 68 MPs. But we didn't get that opportunity either. For us, the way out of this political crisis is exactly the opposite of what our opponents are proposing - an equidistant expert government with an equally distant Prime Minister. What needs to be done is for a large part of the parties in the next National Assembly to participate directly in the executive power and take their share of the responsibility. Thus being tied to the success or failure of such a government. Then as wide a range of political formations as possible will be motivated not only to support the government, but also to keep it successful in one form or another. Solving the political crisis goes through lasting solutions, through a request for a full management mandate and setting goals that require more than 6 months or a year," Toma Bykov stressed.

"Mr. Borisov pointed out that one of the unacceptable partners in a government are colleagues from "Vazrazhdane", their requests to leave NATO and the EU are unacceptable, and we have no way to agree on other common topics management. But with all the others who declare their support for Bulgaria's membership in the EU and NATO, we could hold talks. As a party protecting its electoral votes, we will do everything we can to prevent practices like bought and corporate vote from happening.

The institutions in Bulgaria, involved in the electoral process, should also play a major role. I am not optimistic that such practices can be 100% stopped, but I hope they will be limited and there will be a sense of trust in the electoral process. The biggest damage that such practices do is that they destroy confidence in the choice. When there is basic mistrust in the electoral process, then the legitimacy of the government is taken away, from there the trust in the institutions collapses.

All political forces should be maximally engaged in preventing such practices. GERB has a comprehensive program for the development of Bulgaria, we have been supplementing it for the past 4 years. All sectors are affected in it - economy, social policy, culture. But the economy and the institutions that generate GDP must be moved. The problems will come from the administration, which is constantly waiting for elections.

Another fundamentally important thing is Bulgaria's foreign policy. We are in a difficult geopolitical situation and we are in a state of impossibility to practically pursue a sustainable foreign policy line, due to the lack of the fact that there is no one to make a commitment. Therefore, it is worthwhile for Bulgaria to have a government that leads and ensures the foreign policy, which is directly related to national security, Toma Bykov concluded.
