Svetlin Tachev: The upcoming elections are a crossroads - 1

„This is an emanation of party decay. There has not been such a high number of independent people's representatives until now, at least since the beginning of the century. This is a symptom of the crisis we are in and which leads to a situation that has two ways out.“

This was stated by political scientist Svetlin Tachev in the Euronews Primetime studio.

„The upcoming elections are a crossroads. One way is for the political formations to find an intersection between themselves and form a government. The other option is to go down the dangerous path of populism. Voices are already being raised for changing the system, changing the form of government, changing the way elections are held, demands for a Grand National Assembly and a new constitution, noted the political scientist.

„These populist themes are raised around every political crisis. Back in the years we have seen it more than once, but the situation at the moment is such that at some point they may prevail and put this issue on the agenda, which is very dangerous. Our country is in a situation of provisional government. It is not run by a regular government, it is temporary. The chief prosecutor is temporary. We don't have an ombudsman. Almost all regulators have expired mandates. We exist in a transitional time. From now on, it is very important whether the political leaders will find a way to overcome their differences in order to form a government, or whether they will continue on this dangerous path," Tachev stressed.
