Stefan Stoyanov: For the RSM, whatever we do, we will be wrong - 1

Within the visit in North Macedonia, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán pledged help to Skopje in its dispute with Bulgaria to find a solution acceptable to both sides.

"If Hungary is an intermediary, the result could be negative for us - the position would be more for Skopje than for Sofia. For Macedonia, whatever we do, we will be wrong. If we have a long-term strategy, then we could achieve certain results and not just react to some actions. We initially got it wrong because we didn't have a strategy.

This is what the diplomat Stefan Stoyanov commented on the show "The Day ON AIR".

He is of the opinion that our foreign policy should be institutionalized to a greater extent.

"Politicians are slaves to everyday life and the mood of voters. They must comply with the long-term plans that are being developed in the foreign ministry," Stoyanov told Bulgaria ON AIR.

The diplomat emphasized that it is important to have allies internationally, because without allies nothing is done. He is of the opinion that our foreign policy has always historically lagged behind neighboring countries - Greece, Turkey and Serbia.

"We celebrated Independence Day. Until 1908, Bulgaria developed flawlessly. We have the strongest army in the Balkans. We have a booming economy, the best educated population. We declare independence and become independent in foreign policy. A few years pass and national catastrophes come. Diplomacy is zero. We don't have a civilian intelligence, a diplomatically strong corps that can influence the government. We should learn a lesson from this time," Stoyanov pointed out.
