Potatoes can become a scarce commodity. Bulgarian production is disappearing from the market, the danger of this is becoming more and more real, because the native producers are increasingly sinking into problems, the way out of which often turns out to be one – abandonment of agriculture. However, this logically gives way to imports, which are increasingly displacing native potatoes from the stall.
In Koprivshtitsa, for another year, the "Festival of the Koprischi Braboy" is being held. This is what the locals call potatoes, the cultivation of which is one of the main livelihoods in the town of Sdnjegorje.
Potato production is becoming increasingly complex. The difficulties are many, and the Bulgarian potato has been replaced by a foreign one, disguised as a new one. According to statistics, in 2006, potatoes were grown on an area of 260,000 acres, now there are 54,000 acres. Very often, potatoes sold as Bulgarian have nothing to do with native production. One of the challenges is drought, lack of irrigation water and devastating temperatures.
