"Alpha Research": For 22% of Bulgarians, the year was better for them and their families, 24% assess it as worse - 1

What is the assessment of Bulgarians for the past year and what are the expectations for the upcoming 2025 - this is what sociologists from "Alpha Research" asked in their latest survey, conducted from December 1 to 10, quoted by BNT.

The general conclusion - the assessments of Bulgarians on a personal level differ sharply from those of the situation in the country and the world.

22% of respondents state that the year was better for them and their families, against 24% - who assess it as worse. The majority, 54%, find no change compared to the previous year. Despite all the vicissitudes of the past 12 months, these assessments are minimally different (no more than 2 to 3 percentage points) from those given at the end of 2023.
The assessment of the direction in which Bulgaria is moving differs dramatically from the feeling of what is happening on a personal and family level. Only 7% (another 3 points less than last year) believe that Bulgaria has changed for the better. Neutral assessments remain at about a third, but those disappointed (or desperate) that the country is on the right track increase to 58.5%. If we compare personal assessments – more than two and a half times more are disillusioned with the ability of the national elite to build a modern Bulgaria.

The assessment of the geopolitical situation in the world looks as follows - 40% of respondents believe that the crises will deepen, 28% see light at the end of the tunnel and expect prosperity and more opportunities in 2025. Against this background, as with the assessments for the past year, on a personal level, expectations for the next one contrast sharply. Only 16% are pessimistic against a full 43% optimistic.
