The pipeline accident in Lake Varna has been fixed and there is no more sewage leakage, reported from the press center of the Municipality in the seaside town. After the sewer pump station was restored, the pipeline connection was monitored by a robot and no problems were found. However, an emergency team from the project contractor is ready to respond. The company will also cover the costs of eliminating the problems that have arisen, BTA specified.
The emergency situation was discussed at an extraordinary meeting called by the mayor of Varna, Blagomir Kotsev. It was attended by representatives of all interested institutions, including the Basin Directorate, the Regional Health Directorate, RISW, “Maritime Administration”, Water and Sewerage. According to data from the main contractor of the project - “Hydroremont IG“ Ltd., the probable cause of the accident is non-observance of construction discipline by the company – subcontractor of the project “EIS Construction Company“ Inc.
Basin directorate continues to take daily samples from the waters of the lake. Initial results show increased levels of nitrogen and phosphorus compounds, with final summary results to be reported at a later stage.
As BTA reported, the accident happened late last Thursday evening. In April of this year, the state provided BGN 24 million for the repair of the pipeline. In August, at a meeting with the media, the company executing the project assured that the entire pipe repair project will be completed at the beginning of next year.
