Deputies of “Yes, Bulgaria”, part of the PP-DB coalition, submitted a report to the National Security Agency for illegal provision of consular services by Russia in Varna. Last week, a journalistic investigation revealed that Moscow was using the BSP party headquarters in Varna to provide consular services, even though the Russian consulate in the Maritime Capital was closed in October 2023.
This is stated in a message from the formation sent to the media.
“We remind you that in June 2022, Bulgaria announced as “persona non grata” 70 diplomats and employees in the diplomatic representations of the Russian Federation in our country. In the list of those announced for recall are almost all those working in the consulate in Varna, including the consul general Vladimir Klimanov. This happens on the basis of three reports of the State Agency "National Security" (DANS) and a decision of the Interdepartmental Council on Security”, it is also written in the signal of “Yes, Bulgaria”.
The MPs from “Yes, Bulgaria” stress that the provision of consular services at party headquarters contradicts the principle of political independence of diplomatic missions. They are demanding an investigation and necessary legal action should the media's revelations be confirmed.
