The National Assembly elected a speaker in the person of Assoc. Prof. Natalia Kiselova (BSP-United Left), and this happened with the votes of “Democracy, Rights and Freedoms“ (DPS). The parliament has worked, but will we have a cabinet… Ahmed Vranchev, MP from the “Democracy, Rights and Freedoms“ parliamentary group, spoke to FACTI.
- Mr. Vranchev, what conclusion can you draw from the talks with the president. How do you define the chances of a cabinet…
- We define the talks as significant and constructive, because for a long time now the political parties themselves have behaved responsibly and somehow, unlike the previous time, the red lines that the political parties drew were related only to limiting political entities that are harmful to Bulgarian politics. Although I am personally not an optimist, I would say that Bulgaria and Bulgarian society need a government that will stand on a solid foundation with a clear vision and the adoption of legislation that will free Bulgarian institutions from dependencies. Only in this way can we restore normality in the country.
- From „Democracy, Rights and Freedoms“ you announced that you are ready for negotiations, but not with all… Which parties are dropping out and why…
- „Vazrazhdane“ and the New Beginning coalition. With „Vazrazhdane“ we have ideological differences, and with the coalition of Novo Nachola in question - for them I would simply say that there is no going back!
- How is the DPS structured now. Do you feel more stable…
- This is a long process. Stabilizing the party goes through the restructuring of the party by regions, which will return party life to the places we have always had. Namely - active participation of the structures in political processes both at the regional and national levels. But, yes, after all that we experienced during the campaign, we currently feel much more stable as an organization, because these over 200 thousand voters gave a lesson in democracy to all who participated in this process of falsification and use of power to predetermine our future.
- GERB announced that it is taking responsibility for forming a regular government. From “Democratic Bulgaria“ will join. What is happening in PP-DB…
- This is a question that should be asked to the coalition leadership.
- Do you see a chance for the parliament to elect a stable government, or will it rather be a cabinet with some specific time horizon?
- There is definitely a chance to form a government. Even if it is with a specific time horizon. I think that the country needs a regular government that will adopt a 2025 budget, adopt legislation that will guarantee transparency in the judicial system and return Bulgaria to its essence as a state governed by the rule of law. Otherwise, the control of Bulgarian institutions and their use as clubs to clear the political terrain will continue and a political and legal image of the state will be formed, which will totally destroy statehood and democracy!
- And how do you position yourself in this plot?
- We - from the MRF, will be the guarantor of saving statehood and democracy. We have always been consistent and responsible when the rights and freedoms of Bulgarian citizens are threatened. Nowadays, unfortunately, we are faced with exactly such a situation - to resist the fundamental principles of democracy.
- Does the cordon sanitaire that they want from the PP-DB against the DPS-New Beginning work?
- It worked to the extent of putting the problem into a framework, focusing public attention on the model of the conquered state, the elimination of which is the responsibility of all politicians and political parties.
- You supported Assoc. Prof. Natalia Kiselova for Speaker of the Parliament. How do you generally view this election. Why did it have to drag on for almost a month?
- From day one of the 51st National Assembly, we have been consistent, principled and stated that we would support candidates of political parties that supported the declaration of a cordon sanitaire. The moment the BSP signed the declaration of a cordon sanitaire, we immediately supported their candidate in the person of Assoc. Prof. Natalia Kiselova. It should be clear that throughout the entire period we have been guided by the idea of unblocking the parliamentary crisis in which the National Assembly has fallen.
- Acting Prosecutor General Borislav Sarafov requested three parliamentary immunity in a week, all for people from the PP… How do you view this?
- We have always supported the prosecution's work quickly, impartially and in accordance with the Bulgarian Constitution and laws. In this case, we first observe very late actions. The question that Bulgarian society is asking itself is: "Why is this happening in a situation of cabinet negotiations? Is there a political nuance in the actions of the prosecution?" When you want the immunity of a member of parliament, it means that you have collected enough evidence to press charges. Kiril Petkov filed a waiver of his immunity in the National Assembly, but the prosecution has not pressed charges. These question marks make all of us, and Bulgarian society as well, have huge doubts about the true purpose of these actions.
