In 5 years, the statistics will be even more tragic if urgent measures are not taken. The number of GPs is exceptionally low. This was stated to BTV by Dr. Nikolay Brunzalov, Chairman of the Bulgarian Medical Association.
Currently, there are 3,304 GPs in our country, 700 fewer than 5 years ago, he added.
The health insurance contribution should be raised, he believes, justifying his request with the lack of personnel.
"In Bulgaria, there are several cases of 80-year-old and even older GPs, after whom there will be no one to work."
The number of GPs has drastically decreased in recent years, Brunzalov commented.
Kardzhali, Smolyan and Targovishte are the worst in terms of GPs. And in Sliven, there are GPs, which have over 17 thousand patients, with an average of 1,860 per GP.
