After months of considering that the procedure for electing a new prosecutor general - namely Borislav Sarafov, on January 16 - was almost a foregone conclusion, today the deputies reversed this trend. They voted on three bills, which are from “There is such a people“, “Vazrazhdane“ and PP-DB. To varying degrees, they also provide for the termination of this procedure and the subsequent limitation of the powers of the prosecutor general and his deputies.
This is the first vote and the administration of the National Assembly and the temporary chairman of the legal committee must also be organized very quickly. These projects must be considered quickly if they really want to improve the legislation and thwart Sarafov's election. This was commented on in the program "Face to Face" on bTV by Ivan Bregov - an expert from the Center for the Study of Democracy. According to him, over the past 35 years, the Bulgarian prosecutor's office has been permanently and consistently abused.
„People there are not connected by professionalism, but by insults and good pay. The budget of the judiciary this year has increased by 400 million leva, with 150 million leva of them being for clothing alone,“ Bregov pointed out.
He commented on the changes proposed today by the various formations - see how in the video.
The expert pointed out that there is no noise about the investigations surrounding the "Eight Dwarfs", the Notary, the SS Club and the bags with prosecutorial decrees.
"We only know that in the investigations into the "Trakia" highway, where 68 million leva were paid in cash - something that the legislation does not allow, the prosecutors who dealt with this case were seconded and replaced. In the investigations of the "Eight Dwarfs", we only know that the legal qualification of the charges is quite controversial," the expert commented.
