The United States supports a peaceful political transition in Syria and the formation of an inclusive government. This was stated by US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken in a conversation with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud.
“The Secretary of State reaffirmed US support for a peaceful political transition to an inclusive, representative, and accountable Syrian-led government“, State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said in a statement released Monday after the talks between the statesmen.
“Blinken emphasized the shared role of the international community for all parties in Syria to respect the rights and fundamental freedoms of all Syrians, including members of minorities, and to prevent Syria from being used as a base for terrorism“, the document notes.
The Secretary of State noted the need for the international community to facilitate the flow of humanitarian assistance throughout Syria. He thanked the government of Saudi Arabia for its assistance to the Syrian people.
“The Secretary of State and the Secretary of State discussed ongoing efforts to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza that would ensure the release of all hostages and increased humanitarian assistance. They discussed the implementation of the cessation of hostilities between Israel and Lebanon,“ the document said.
Blinken emphasized the need for continued support for Lebanon's legitimate institutions, such as the Lebanese Armed Forces and the Internal Security Forces.
