8 Bulgarians have confirmed their presence at the inauguration ceremony of President Donald Trump on Monday through the list of the Bulgarian Congress of the United States - an American non-governmental organization that has received a limited number of invitations to the event from the House of Representatives in the US Congress, reports 24 Chasa, quoted by dariknews.bg.

The list includes Assoc. Prof. Georgi Nikolov - Head of the Department of “Regional Development” at the UNWE and Director of the Institute for Postgraduate Qualification, as well as Senior Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ekaterina Bogomilova – Director of the International Master's Program “Nuclear Security” and lecturer at the Department of “National and Regional Security”, Faculty of “Infrastructure Economics” of the UNWE.

Also invited is nuclear engineer Dr. Boyan Sechenski, who is the first head of the “Westinghouse” representative office in Bulgaria and is now a program manager at “Westinghouse” – Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

The list includes the names of the GERB MP in the 51st National Assembly Valentin Milushev and Venelin Dimitrov – founder and CEO of a software company, as well as Nadya Marinova.

The other two Bulgarians are respectively the president and vice president of the Bulgarian Congress of the United States - Pete Christopherson and Prof. Dr. Gergana Yordanova.

The Bulgarian Congress of the United States is a non-governmental organization established in 2023 in the United States with the aim of creating and strengthening strong political, economic, cultural and educational bridges and successful business relationships between Bulgaria, the Balkan region and the United States. The Congress was established on the idea of Pete Christopherson - a Bulgarian who has lived in the United States since 2000.

"The members of the Bulgarian delegation will witness the historic event in front of the Capitol, where Donald Trump will be sworn in before His Honor John G. Roberts Jr., Chief Justice of the United States and a member of the Supreme Court, and will listen to the traditional inaugural address, in which the newly elected president will outline his priorities and vision for governing the country over the next four years.

Participation in some of the accompanying events is planned with the aim of establishing academic and business contacts and strengthening economic, political, cultural and educational ties between Bulgaria and the United States, meetings at the White House and Congress, as well as visiting some of the Inaugural Balls during the weekend that traditionally precedes the Oath Ceremony," the organization announced in a letter to the media.

Other Bulgarians will probably also attend Trump's inauguration, invited through other organizations. One of them is the former deputy of the Grand National Assembly and former ambassador to Greece Stefan Stoyanov. According to other sources, the long-time rector of the University of Library Science and Information Technologies in Sofia, Stoyan Denchev, also received an invitation to the event.

"The Bulgarian Congress of the United States received a limited number of invitations from the House of Representatives in the US Congress to attend the main event and the accompanying events. For the Bulgarian Congress, this gesture of attention is a high honor and an expression of the established successful cooperation," the organization also announced.

We recall that on Sunday, President Rumen Radev explained why he will not attend the upcoming inauguration of Donald Trump.

"I have an invitation, but I myself cannot go to this event. In principle, the American side and the White House do not invite foreign guests to inaugurations, such invitations come from the Senate, it is much more important for us to develop our relations with the US at all levels, at the highest political level, and we will continue to work in this direction," said Radev.

"There will be no representative of the presidential institution, but talks at a high political level will continue," the president also said.
