The Interim Foreign Minister of Syria Assad Hassan al-Shibani said yesterday that the new government will continue to work for the inclusion of all population groups, DPA reported, quoted by BTA.

"No one should be punished because of their origin, social or religious affiliation or affiliation to certain groups“, said al-Shibani in a discussion with former British Prime Minister Tony Blair during the World Economic Forum in Davos.

The Syrian Foreign Minister called for the lifting of economic sanctions against his country and stressed that this "is of key importance for the stability of Syria".

The sanctions were imposed for the benefit of the Syrians, but are now "against the Syrian people", stressed Ash Shibani.

Syria's de facto leader Ahmed al-Sharaa led the surprise offensive of the rebels that overthrew the regime of Bashar al-Assad in December 2024, which forced the former president to flee to Moscow after more than two decades in power, DPA recalls.

The foreign minister stressed that Syria and its people are now free.

Speaking about the role of women, Ash Shibani noted that they are a decisive factor in building a new Syria.

He stressed that Syrian women must be part of the country's future. Leading positions in the transitional government have already been filled by women, including the appointment of Maysa Sabrine as director of the Central Bank.

Syria's foreign minister added that they inherited a collapsed state from the Assad regime and that the country had no economic system.
