Restaurants and hoteliers from Shumen demand compensation from the state due to the black leopard. They claim that they suffered losses due to the blockade of the “Shumen plateau”, which led to an outflow of customers.
According to Yuliy Dimitrov, who is a tenant of a complex in the area, on June 20, the nature park dawned with police posts and a pass regime. “There was a complete ban on visits to the park due to a signal about a predator of unknown origin, captured on video. No one informed us about this. We found out from the media. We are five owners who carry out tourist activities on the territory of the plateau. "No one received any instructions on what to do," Dimitrov said.
He stressed that guests were immediately warned not to leave the hotel. In addition, some of the planned events, including weddings, were threatened with cancellation. "Some long phone calls began. We thank the local authorities for allowing us to hold the events anyway, because insurance and payments were coming in. Roughly speaking, about 50 families support themselves from all the sites on the plateau," he explained.
Dimitrov also explained that his business is seasonal, because when it rains, "no one goes up to the plateau."
