115 vacuum-packed packages with nearly 78 kg of marijuana were seized by customs officers at the Lesovo border checkpoint during two separate checks of a light truck and a passenger car, the Customs Agency reported.
In the first case, on March 14, 2025, a light truck - a minibus with a foreign registration, driven by a Romanian citizen with the initials D.B., arrived at the Lesovo border checkpoint on an inbound route from Turkey. At the request of the Border Police officers, a thorough inspection of the vehicle was carried out.
During the control actions, a total of 100 packages with dry herbaceous mass were found in the sleeping compartment above the driver of the minibus, hidden in bags with personal luggage and under the mattress of the bed. During the field drug tests, the substance in the packages reacted to marijuana. The total amount of marijuana found was 60.176 kg gross weight.
In the second case, on March 16, 2025, a passenger car with Bulgarian registration, driven by a Bulgarian citizen with the initials D.M., arrived at the Lesovo border checkpoint on the outbound route from Bulgaria to Turkey.
In the customs control area, the driver announced that he had nothing to declare. The vehicle was selected by customs officers for a thorough inspection, during which, after dismantling the front and rear bumpers of the vehicle, a total of 15 vacuum-packed packages of dry herbaceous mass were found.
It was found that the substance in the packages was marijuana with a total gross weight of 17.572 kg.
The seized marijuana in both cases was 77.748 kg gross weight, worth over 1.240 million. leva at prices for the needs of the judicial system.
Two pre-trial proceedings have been initiated in the cases, which are being conducted by investigating customs inspectors, under the supervision of the District Prosecutor's Office - Yambol.
