A Bulgarian arrested in Thessaloniki for distributing counterfeit 100 euro banknotes. He is accused of fraud.
A 29-year-old Bulgarian is in police custody in Thessaloniki, caught making purchases with counterfeit banknotes. He used them to buy mobile phones and various electronic devices. He placed the orders online or from mobile phone stores.
This was reported by the Bulgarian National Radio.
The arrest took place in a store where he ordered an expensive mobile phone worth 1,400 euros, trying to pay for it in cash with counterfeit banknotes. The seller was impressed that despite the current ban in the country on all transactions over 500 euros being carried out by bank transfer, the Bulgarian insisted on paying in cash. When the money was checked, it turned out that it was counterfeit.
The car was searched during the arrest. 18 more 100 euro banknotes of dubious quality were hidden in it.
Last year, the Bulgarian made another purchase of a mobile phone with counterfeit money. Another of his accomplices is also being sought.
The arrested man will appear before the prosecutor in Thessaloniki tomorrow.
