Amazon drops to record - 1
The water level in the main tributaries of the Amazon River has reached a historic minimum, Reuters reported. In some cases, riverbeds that were once waterways have dried up, dariknews.bg reported.

The Solimoise River, one of the main tributaries of the Amazon River, whose waters originate in the Peruvian Andes, has dropped to its lowest level on record in Tabatinga, a Brazilian city on the border with Colombia.

Part of the Tefe River has completely dried up, as seen by Reuters reporters who flew over the river on Tuesday.

Nearby Lake Tefe, where more than 200 freshwater dolphins died during last year's drought, has also dried up, depriving the endangered pink mammals of their favorite habitat.

This is happening for the second year in a row, because of the extreme drought in Brazil, which has dried up much of the vegetation in Brazil and caused wildfires in South American countries.

The Solimoise River at Tabatinga was measured at 4.25 meters below average for the first half of September. In Tefe, the river was 2.92m below average for the same fortnight last year and is expected to drop further to its lowest level on record.
