After opening the first keg at noon, the frothy liquid began to flow freely for the guests in the pitched tents. The 189th edition runs until October 6 and expects up to 6 million visitors this year.

Two and a half hours after the start of beer sales, the first so-called "beer victim" ended up in the medical center of the event, reported DPA, quoted by BTA.
Minutes after 2:30 p.m. local time (3:30 p.m. Bulgarian time), a 24-year-old visitor from the United States was taken away on a stretcher, the operations manager of the emergency service in Munich reported.
The beer of "Oktoberfest" it contains about 6 percent alcohol, making it stronger than regular light beer. It is only available by the liter, and in the warm weather and in the attractive beer tents, it is easy to drink too much, DPA notes.
Approximately 550 emergency service staff, including 55 doctors, are on hand throughout the event to ensure the health and safety of visitors over the 16 days of the festival.
During last year's edition of "Oktoberfest" the medics treated a total of 8,157 patients. About a third of them needed medical attention because of alcohol abuse, DPA notes.
