On the holiday Sunday, the center of Sofia will be closed to cars

On the 22 and 23 September on the occasion of Independence Day parking in the “blue“ and “green“ zone will be free. Today – September 21, “blue“ and “green“ zones will operate with normal business hours.

The holiday of September 22 has been declared a "Car Free Day"

However, on the holiday Sunday, the center of Sofia will be closed to cars. Independence Day is the last day of the European Mobility Week 2024, the date has also been declared as “Car Free Day" and there will be a traditional procession.

From 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on September 22, vehicles are prohibited from entering the area bounded by “Todor Aleksandrov“ Blvd. “Kn. Al. Dondukov“ Vasil Levski Blvd., Graf Ignatiev St., Alabin St., Positano St. and Hristo Botev Blvd. There will be traffic on the border streets and boulevards of the area, and cars with a special mode of the Emergency Service, the fire department and the police, public transport, cars of the residents of the area, as well as those serving the coordinated events and solemn ceremonies, will be able to enter it.< br />
During the day there will be rides:

From 11:00 a.m., the Deputy Mayor for Transport, Eng. Iliyan Pavlov, will lead a bicycle procession, with the beginning on Blvd. “Al. Stamboliyski” in front of the church “St. Sunday”. It will pass along the boulevards “Kn. Al. Dondukov”, “Vasil Levski”, “Patriarch Euthymius” and “Hristo Botev”, and they will be temporarily closed until all cyclists have passed. In the closed area of Blvd. “Al. Stamboliyski” there will be a variety of transport-related events - a tram simulator, a transport quiz from 14:00, free riding of electric bicycles and scooters, CGM will charge free cards for students up to 14 years old, there will be open yoga, tai chi and zumba classes.

There will also be a bicycle relay from 10:00 to 14:00

The traffic organization for the cycling relay envisages the closure of central streets, the movement of part of the city transport is also changed. It will depart from "Gen. Joseph V. Gurko" in the part between "Vasil Levski" Blvd. and "Evlogi and Hristo Georgievi" Blvd., without affecting "Vasil Levski" Blvd. and will run along the route: "Gen. Yosif V. Gurko", "Evlogi i Hristo Georgievi" Blvd., "Bulgaria" Blvd., "Pencho Slaveykov" Blvd., next to "Vitosha" Blvd.

The Metropolitan Municipality, together with the Center for Urban Mobility, also organizes an open day at three city transport depots between 11:00 and 16:00 - depot “Krasna Polyana”, garage “Zemlyane” and metro depot “Zemlyane”. They will be reached not only by the regular lines of public transport, but also by a special retro bus line with number 202, which will depart from the “Vazrazhdane” every 25 minutes and will drive to garage “Grounding” with Ikarus and Mercedes O305G buses. In the tram depot, all children and fans of transport will be able to see how a tram is driven and look at miniature models of public transport, and in the bus garage they will enjoy restored vintage Škoda buses. and “Chavdar“.

The events are part of the celebration of the European Mobility Week between September 16 and 22.
