Ethel Kennedy, widow of US Senator and Attorney General Robert Kennedy, has died at the age of 96 - more the little brother of the 35th president of the United States, John F. Kennedy, reports CBS News, quoted by NOVA.

Kennedy had recently suffered a stroke and was receiving treatment when she died, former congressman and her grandson Joe Kennedy III said in a statement posted on the social network X. “It is with our hearts full of love that we announce the passing of our amazing grandmother, Ethel Kennedy”, the statement said. “She died this morning from complications related to a stroke last week”, the family also reported.

Ethel and Robert Kennedy had 11 children. Her last child was born six months after her husband's death in an assault and murder in 1968, when he was running for president of the United States on the Democratic Party.

In 2014, US President Barack Obama awarded Ethel Kennedy the Presidential Medal of Freedom for her commitment to “advancing the cause of social justice, human rights, environmental protection and poverty reduction through countless actions for hope that can affect change in the world“.
